ŠKODA OCTAVIA 4×4: bestseller’s all-wheel-drive version increasingly popular

› Interest in the all-wheel-drive version of the bestseller rose further in 2017
› Thanks to all-wheel drive, all of the OCTAVIA’s variants offer even higher functionality
› A range of possible combinations for engine, body and equipment
› ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT and ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS also available with all-wheel drive

In January of last year, the car manufacturer from Mladá Boleslav presented the third generation of its bestselling ŠKODA OCTAVIA. For years, it has regularly been one of the top 10 bestselling European cars. Demand has remained consistently high and, last year, almost 30,000 customers opted for a 4×4 version.

In typical ŠKODA style, the OCTAVIA offers numerous choices and possible combinations for body variants, engines, transmissions and equipment. Its all-wheel drive makes the OCTAVIA appeal to a large target group. The intelligent 4×4 drive with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch is available in both body variants and for a wide range of specification options. For example, it can be combined with a petrol or diesel engine, and a manual or automatic dual-clutch transmission. In Germany, the all-wheel-drive vehicle’s largest market, approximately 5,900 customers chose the 4×4 version in 2017. But the OCTAVIA 4×4 is also extremely popular in Nordic and alpine countries: in Switzerland, there were 4,600 deliveries of this model variant; in Austria, the Czech manufacturer sold 3,000 Octavia 4×4s. Norway and Sweden count amongst the largest northern European markets with 2,350 and 1,800 deliveries respectively.

The latest generation of the multi-plate clutch provides optimal transmission in the OCTAVIA 4×4. The all-wheel-drive models feature a multi-link rear axle with a trailing arm, three transverse links per wheel, and a torsion stabiliser, giving the car excellent handling and making it extremely smooth to drive. The maximum towing capacity for models with all-wheel drive is 2,000 kg (for the 2.0 TDI/110 kW).

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT is available exclusively with all-wheel drive. Thanks to its electronic Off-Road mode, it makes great headway on rough terrain. This trim level impresses with its rugged design and numerous functional elements, including black coverings for the bumpers, wheel arches and sills.

The OCTAVIA RS is also available as a 2-litre turbodiesel with all-wheel drive. With a power output of 135 kW and direct-shift transmission, the all-wheel-drive variant performs a standard sprint 0.3 seconds faster than the front-wheel-drive version. The OCTAVIA RS 4×4 is available as a hatchback or estate. In 2017, a third of customers opted for the all-wheel-drive ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS 2.0 TDI.
