5 warming aids that help you get through winter

Freezing temperatures challenge both drivers and their vehicles. Modern cars therefore offer a range of technologies to make winter conditions easier to manage. Useful equipment features available in Škoda models simplify snow and ice removal and improve passenger comfort.

For safe and comfortable driving during the colder months, winter tyres are essential, but good habits when using the air-conditioning and heating systems are just as important. It also pays to think about winter comfort when choosing a new car, as a well-chosen equipment package can make life much more pleasant in freezing weather.

Heated windows

An essential feature that helps drivers combat frost and snow is heated glazing. All Škoda vehicles come with a heated rear window as standard, but a heated windscreen is equally valuable. Some models include it in their standard equipment, while others offer it as an optional extra, including the brand’s most compact and affordable model for the European market, the Fabia.

Heated mirrors

Carefully removing frost or snow from the mirrors can be a delicate and time-consuming task, often followed by the need to readjust them. All Škoda models can be equipped with heated mirrors, and for most of them, this practical feature is part of the standard specification. To clear the view, the driver simply rotates the door-mounted control to the heating position, and in a matter of seconds the mirror glass becomes clear.

Tip

Škoda vehicles offer several smart heating solutions designed to make operation easier for the user. The ventilation settings include dedicated modes, such as one focused on warming the driver’s hands (activating the heated steering wheel and directing warm air from the dashboard vents) or the driver’s feet. The infotainment menu also features a “Heating” function that activates multiple heating elements simultaneously at the touch of a button, with users free to configure which components—and at what intensity—should be engaged.

Heated steering wheel

A heated steering wheel has become a highly popular comfort feature among drivers. On a frosty morning, the cold surface warms to a pleasant temperature within a minute. Once again, this is not a luxury item reserved only for high-end models—every Škoda vehicle, including the smallest Fabia, can be equipped with this option.

Heated seats

Heated seats are also widely available today, warming passengers even before the heating system creates a pleasant climate throughout the cabin. The unwelcome feeling of a cold back disappears shortly after getting into the car. Heated front seats are available across the entire Škoda range, while models from the Scala and Kamiq upwards can also be fitted with heated rear seats.

Auxiliary heater

The pinnacle of thermal comfort in modern vehicles is the auxiliary heater. Using the MyŠkoda app, drivers can remotely pre-heat the cabin to a comfortable temperature, ensuring a warm atmosphere on entry and helping to melt or loosen snow and ice on the exterior surfaces. This premium feature is now included as standard on all Škoda electric and plug-in hybrid models. It is also available to order as an extra feature from the optional equipment catalogue for vehicles with conventional combustion engines, including the Karoq, Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq—both in petrol and diesel variants.
