In its new Matte Grey colour, the Elroq RS makes a bold statement. For Škoda Auto employees, however, producing this finish is much more than simply adding a new paint to the spray booth. It is the result of extensive work by a cross-departmental team of specialists who, in collaboration with suppliers, tested multiple variants, ran simulations, and refined processes to deliver a product that meets the brand’s high standards of quality.

“We are pleased to have responded to customer demand in this way. Looking ahead, we aim to further expand the palette of matte finishes for our cars,” says Veronika Straškrabová, Project Manager for the Elroq model family.

The matte Elroq RS rolls off the same production line and paint shop in Mladá Boleslav as any other Elroq. The difference lies in the newly added flexibility: each body can now be coated in either a gloss or matte finish.

The matte effect itself comes from the clear topcoat, which is infused with a matting agent containing, among other things, silica nanoparticles. “These nanoparticles rise to the surface of the top layer and create the desired matte finish. Essentially, it works by scattering incoming light in multiple directions instead of reflecting it straight back to the eye, which is why the paint appears matte,” explains paint shop planning coordinator Pavel Saska. According to him, the Elroq RS uses an ultra matt paint type, which features a lower gloss unit level, visually deepening the matte appearance even further.

Wrapped in a bathrobe - no polish needed

Although the matte paint used on the Elroq RS is more resistant than conventional finishes, Škoda has taken extra precautions to ensure flawless delivery. Instead of the standard transport films typically applied to new cars, the matte Elroq is equipped with a so-called full body cover—a protective sleeve that envelopes the entire vehicle. This provides uniform protection of all painted surfaces and minimizes the risk of mechanical damage during transport, for example on a truck carrier. With its cover in place, the SUV looks almost as if it were dressed in a bathrobe.

Owners of the limited-edition Elroq RS will find detailed care instructions for the matte paint in the vehicle’s user manual. For example, applying decorative or protective films to matte surfaces is not recommended. Likewise, polishing, waxing, or using cleaning products containing wax should be avoided.

The RS variant stands at the top of the Elroq lineup, powered by dual electric motors delivering a combined output of 250 kW (340 hp). This enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Despite its dynamic performance, the sharp electric SUV offers an impressive WLTP range of up to 550 kilometres. Its 84-kWh battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in as little as 26 minutes. Compared to other trims, the Elroq RS comes with adaptive DCC suspension, wheels up to 21 inches, and specially tuned driving modes that emphasize its sporty character while also ensuring exceptional comfort on long journeys.
