Meet the ŠKODA SCALA

Meet the ŠKODA SCALA

Just weeks after its world première, the ŠKODA SCALA is gracing the Geneva Motor Show with its presence. Come and take a look up close!

6. 3. 2019 Models Scala

The ŠKODA SCALA is a very important model for the Czech carmaker. There are several reasons for this. The SCALA is a new stage in the evolution of the ŠKODA design language that will also be put to use in the brand’s future models. What are its distinguishing features? Its crisp-cut features, dynamic contours and crystalline design. The SCALA is also the brand’s first European model to proudly carry the ŠKODA name in letters at the back, replacing the logo.

Ask Karel Neuhold, chief exterior designer, what he likes most about the SCALA, and he’ll answer: “The bold fascia, dominated by the vertically-oriented grille and arrowhead headlamps, the distinctive combination of a glass roof and elongated tailgate glass, the crisp-cut tail lights and the ŠKODA name in letters on the fifth door.”

The SCALA is also ŠKODA’s most progressive model when it comes to connectivity. For a start, it’s the brand’s first car to be always online, and the Volkswagen Group’s first vehicle to  eature third-generation infotainment systems.

On top of that, the SCALA is the first ŠKODA with standard-fit LED headlights and LED rear light clusters. Then there is the option of full LED lights front and back, with the addition of rear dynamic direction indicators – another new development for ŠKODA cars, with the SCALA taking the first step.

When you start exploring the interior, you’ll find a cocktail of ergonomics, an emotionally charged look, and the heaps of space that ŠKODA is famous for. At its heart is the central raised infotainment system display. In addition, the SCALA can be equipped with the Virtual Cockpit, featuring a 10.25-inch display so that drivers have all key information constantly in their field of vision. The dashboard, incorporating new large-scale decorative trim, and the front door panels have a high-quality, softened surface complete with a new special finish that mimics the crystalline structure.

And the luggage compartment? Suffice to say it can accommodate a generous 467 litres.

The ŠKODA SCALA is endowed with wide-ranging advanced driver-assistance systems and safety features. Much of this can be put down to the fact that the SCALA is built on the MQB A0 modular platform, allowing for highly flexible and efficient production so that a plethora of innovative assists that were previously the preserve of higher-end vehicles are now available in this compact class. Lane Assist, Front Assist, including Emergency Brake Assist and Hill-start Assist are all standard systems in the SCALA. Options include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Park Assist, Side Assist and Rear Traffic Alert. Passenger safety isenhanced even more by up to nine airbags and a proactive passenger protection system.

Those who like a dash of dynamism in their ride are sure to appreciate the sporty chassis with adjustable shock absorbers, enabling drivers to switch between Normal and Sport modes. Anyone partial to stylish features will enjoy the electrically operated tailgate.
