Modern Škoda cars contain a huge amount of software. Just like in other areas of technology, this software regularly receives updates that not only add new features but also improve security and stability. Selected models and functions can even be updated remotely.

Software development in cars is moving fast. That’s why it’s perfectly normal for your car to receive updates from time to time. These updates help keep the vehicle in great shape: they can introduce new features, fix software bugs, enhance security, optimize performance, and even incorporate feedback directly from users. For example, infotainment updates may bring an improved and more intuitive user experience.
 
Updates are available across the entire Škoda model range – from cars with combustion engines to plug-in hybrids and fully electric models. Some updates still need to be performed at Škoda service partners, usually during regular service inspections. Your service partner can always confirm whether a new update is available for your vehicle. For some models, however, certain updates can be delivered online under specific conditions.

From a certain software version onwards, Škoda’s electric models allow remote updates of the onboard system. Drivers can check for available updates in the infotainment menu whenever the car is online. In most cases, though, the vehicle will notify the driver automatically. The notification clearly explains how to start the process – but first, you need to reach your destination, since the car cannot be driven or used while the update is in progress.

The decision of when to start the update is always up to the driver. Once the right moment comes, it takes just a few simple steps:

1. After switching off the ignition, the “goodbye screen” will display the availability of a system update along with other functions for parked vehicles (such as climate settings or charging options).

2. By selecting the update, you can access “more information” – details such as the estimated installation time, a warning that the car will be temporarily unavailable, and a list of functions that won’t be active. Confirm by pressing Install.

3. The update itself starts automatically once the driver gets out of the vehicle and locks it.

4. When the installation is successfully completed, a message appears on the infotainment screen, and the car is ready to use again without any restrictions.

Applications updates

Individual infotainment apps also receive their own updates – whether pre-installed or downloaded later. A notification lets you know when a new version is available, and you can decide which apps to update. The infotainment menu also shows exactly what each update includes: usually performance improvements, bug fixes, stability updates, text changes, or even entirely new features.

●    Update your infotainment apps regularly. For maximum convenience, enable automatic downloads.
●    Choose your preferred service partner in the MyŠkoda app. They will contact you proactively whenever your car needs attention.

For maximum convenience, automatic updates can be enabled in the infotainment settings. In contrast to system updates, app updates run quietly in the background without interrupting your drive. If the car is switched off, the process simply pauses and continues the next time you start your journey.

Proactive service

Digital services also make it easy to stay connected with your Škoda service partner. In the MyŠkoda app, simply select your preferred partner in the Inspection section. The service will then automatically contact you whenever your car requires attention – whether it’s a notification based on live vehicle data or a regular inspection. For electric models, these service checks are required every two years, regardless of the number of kilometres driven.
