First sketches of the ŠKODA SLAVIA sedan for India

Emotive design, coupé silhouette and balanced proportions. The ŠKODA SLAVIA, the brand’s second car to emerge from the INDIA 2.0 project, is revealed in the first sketches.

The ŠKODA SLAVIA sedan is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform developed specifically for the needs of the Indian market, where it will be sold and also produced locally. In this way, the SLAVIA carries on the tradition started by the ŠKODA KUSHAQ SUV.

As we can see from the first published sketches of the car, the SLAVIA brings unprecedented elegance to the A0-segment sedan category and an outstanding standard of design that honours ŠKODA’s current brand values.

The front has been given ŠKODA’s typical wide hexagonal radiator grille, which is adjoined on the sides by elegantly slim headlights with crystalline design and the L-shaped daytime running lights signature. The sketch also reveals that the car has an unusually long wheelbase for the AO segment and an elegant coupé-style silhouette. One small detail that shows how much care the Czech carmaker has taken with the design is the ŠKODA name on plates towards the back of the front bumpers. This is a feature that was ushered in on the aforementioned ŠKODA KUSHAQ.

Tradition but also the symbol of a beginning

The carmaker’s name can also be found on the rear. The rear bumper with a dark line between the reflectors embedded in it accentuates the car’s width, while the headlights above it combine with the reflectors to form the traditional ŠKODA C-shaped light signature. The SLAVIA’s taillights also have an eye-catching two-part design, where the elongated upper part of the light extends into the boot lid.

The model’s name, SLAVIA, references the origins of the ŠKODA company. Its founders, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, began selling bicycles of their own design under this name in 1896, and the name later appeared on the first motorcycles they made. ŠKODA therefore used the SLAVIA name for India not only as a reference to the company’s rich tradition, but also as a symbol of a new beginning in this market.

The production version of the SLAVIA will be unveiled before the end of this year, and the SLAVIA will then form part of the Czech carmaker’s range on the Indian market alongside its larger OCTAVIA and SUPERB siblings, which have been a big hit among customers there. And in the A0 segment it will complement the KUSHAQ SUV, with which it shares both technologies and design language and car’s exclusive focus on the Indian market. “They are very well proportioned, and the long wheelbase means they are very spacious, which you can tell at first glance before you even open the doors. And from the front they project the brand’s real character,” said ŠKODA’s Chief Designer Oliver Stefani.

Like the KUSHAQ, the SLAVIA will be built at ŠKODA’s own factory in India, using up to 95% local components. While the ŠKODA KUSHAQ is based on Indian traditions, the SLAVIA symbolises the close links between Indo-European tradition and Czech and Indian culture. So once again, there will be no shortage of features that will help SLAVIA satisfy the needs and desires of Indian customers, combined with the traditional Simply Clever solutions typical of the ŠKODA brand and lots more of its distinctive features.
