The ŠKODA FABIA: A Brushed-up Design and New Technology

The first revamped ŠKODA FABIAs have started rolling off the production line in Mladá Boleslav. The popular car’s front and rear design has been refashioned, the interior has been refined, and there are new advanced driver-assistance systems.

The reshaped design makes the car more dynamic. The fascia features remodelled headlamps and a boldly redesigned grille. This is the first time the FABIA has been fitted with highly efficient LED light technology both for the headlights and for the rear light clusters.

Four one-litre engines are available for the rejuvenated ŠKODA FABIA. The MPI engines with indirect fuel injection deliver power of 44 kW (60 PS) or 55 kW (75 PS). There are two top-performing TSI engines, one generating 70 kW (95 PS), the other 81 kW (110 PS). Both of the TSI engines are now fitted with a particulate filter.

The redesigned ŠKODA FABIA also comes with an expanded range of advanced driver-assistance systems. The newly available Blind Spot Detection alerts the driver to the presence of vehicles in the blind spot or approaching quickly from behind on the motorway by lighting up a special icon on the glass of the wing mirrors. Rear Traffic Alert keeps an eye on what is happening behind the vehicle and warns the driver of any collision risk when reversing. Light Assist automatically switches from full to dipped beam as soon as the system detects an oncoming vehicle, making it easier for the driver and road users to drive at night.

Combined with the plethora of other safety and assist systems, the ŠKODA FABIA offers a level of safety that until now only higher-end vehicles have been known for.

The generous roominess is another factor making the ŠKODA FABIA ideal companion. Despite its compact size, it offers plenty of space for five occupants and their luggage. The luggage compartment holds 330 litres, while the rear seats can be folded down to accommodate loads of 1,150 litres. In the estate version, the ŠKODA FABIA COMBI, this rises to 530 litres, or up to 1,395 litres with the seats folded down. For families with children, the Isofix rear seat system is important for easily and securely attaching child seats

Needless to say, there is no shortage of Simply Clever solutions. The ŠKODA FABIA even newly offers two rear seat USB ports for the easy charging of mobile phones and tablets. The ŠKODA FABIA COMBI now incorporates a removable LED flashlight on the side of the luggage compartment. There’s no need to introduce the ice scraper under the lid of the fuel tank, a feature all owners of current ŠKODAs know and appreciate.
