Designers on the Peaq: It’s modern, durable, and practical

The design of the large electric SUV Škoda Peaq isn’t just striking to look at—it’s also highly practical for everyday use. That’s precisely one of the goals of the “Modern Solid” philosophy that guides Škoda Auto’s designers. See how they’ve managed to combine exceptional looks with functionality.

Škoda’s flagship model, the Peaq, was developed based on the 2022 Vision 7S concept. The original bold vision has been successfully preserved, and very little has changed in the production version, as emphasized by Škoda Auto’s chief designer Oliver Stefani and design manager Martin Bogner.

In a new video, they and their colleagues highlight interesting details that enhance the appeal of Škoda’s largest car while also improving its practicality.

Stefani pays particular attention to clean lines—such as the contours of the rear fender and wheel arch—which contribute to low aerodynamic drag. “We tried to use aerodynamics to maximize the car’s range as much as possible,” explains Bogner.

Pay attention to the details :

  • The shape of the fenders contributes to excellent aerodynamics
  • The edges of the wide-spanning trunk lid echo the design of the lights
  • The T-shaped headlights have become a signature feature of Škoda cars
  • The Tech-Deck face references traditional radiator grilles; the illuminated strip visually widens the car and echoes its ribbing
  • The front end features a distinctive crease on the hood and the “Škoda” lettering
  • The interior is designed with all passengers in mind—everyone matters
  • The slim design of the air conditioning vents makes the interior appear wider
  • The vertically oriented display is easy to read and operate, thanks in part to the adjustable armrest

Another practical detail is the very wide opening to the trunk; the designers also managed to seamlessly integrate the trunk lid into the rear styling of the car. The wide D-pillar adds to the car’s dynamic appearance. “It’s very distinctive and blends beautifully with the elongated roofline,” explains exterior designer Baptiste de Brugiere. The front end features typical Škoda design elements, such as the crease on the hood, the Škoda logo, and a nod to the traditional ribbing of the grille.

The interior, with its “democratic” architecture, is designed to ensure that every passenger feels comfortable and valued. “The dashboard is essentially divided into just two parts, which conveys a sense of safety and comfort. It’s very simple, very Modern Solid,” says interior designer Lukáš Vaněk.

Oliver Stefani points out one more detail: the armrest is adjustable not only lengthwise but also for height of the driver. “When I rest my elbow on it, I can comfortably operate the display. That’s fantastic,” he says. There are also physical controls for the most important functions. “It’s the best combination of the digital and physical worlds,” adds Vaněk.

“It’s modern, durable, and functional. This is Modern Solid, the future of Škoda’s design,” says Oliver Stefani, summarizing the flagship model’s appearance.
