The SCALA and the KAMIQ Put on the MONTE CARLO Coat

MONTE CARLO trim is being introduced for the ŠKODA SCALA and ŠKODA KAMIQ. Come and take a closer look!

A MONTE CARLO version of the SCALA and the KAMIQ is being unveiled at this year’s IAA motor show in Frankfurt. This top-of-the-range trim features a wealth of equipment and unique design features crafted to give both cars more than a whiff of dynamism.

The two new MONTE CARLO models are instantly recognisable, mainly on account of sporty black accessories.

That include a high-gloss grille frame between the full LED headlights.

Both Monte Carlo models also feature full LED rear lights that – needless to say – incorporate dynamic direction indicators.

From the side, the black wing mirror covers and black door sill scuff plates are particularly striking.

But what you notice first of all are the special black 17-inch wheels designed specifically for MONTE CARLO models. Wheels an inch bigger are available as an option.

At the back, the whole effect is rounded off by a black diffuser and the ŠKODA name in black letters or, optionally for the SCALA MONTE CARLO, in chrome-plated letters.

Both models have a panoramic roof, stylishly complemented in the KAMIQ MONTE CARLO by high-gloss black roof rails. The SCALA MONTE CARLO’s panoramic roof seamlessly segues with the stretched tailgate glass. And if you have ever been unsure whether you are looking at a MONTE CARLO or another model, the special MONTE CARLO badge will give the game away.

The MONTE CARLO trim has also left its indelible mark on the interior of both models. The sport seats with built-in head restraints and special Monte Carlo covers are one of the most distinctive features. They are well complemented by the multifunction sports steering wheel, which even boasts perforated leather graced with red stitching. The same stitching is used on the leather gear knob and on the handbrake grip.

“We took the traditional appearance of the family of MONTE CARLO cars and made it even sportier,” says Andrea Jensen, coordinator of ŠKODA’s Colour & Trim team. “For instance, we have reworked the seat stripes typical for MONTE CARLO cars and combined them with a darker and sportier red fabric and faux leather done up in a carbon design. These materials match the standard-fit carbon décor and chrome hot stamping, i.e. colour trim extending through the door panels, around the air vents and above the dashboard décor. This décor can optionally be complemented with red hot stamping and ambient lighting in the same colour. The colour-contrasting hot stamping in the door trim lends the interior symmetry and underscores how long it is,” adds Jenson.

The standard-fit white LED ambient lighting can optionally be replaced with red lighting to compound the interior’s dynamism even more. And, because the devil is in the detail, the overall impression is rounded off by subtle features such as aluminium pedal covers and chrome-plated air vents.

MONTE CARLO

Since 2011, the top-of-the-range sporty versions of selected ŠKODA models have been given the MONTE CARLO soubriquet. Any idea why? To get the answer, you have to go back more than 90 years. In 1936, a ŠKODA POPULAR entered the famous Rallye Monte Carlo and caused a commotion by ending up a fantastic second in its category, which no one had been expecting. None of its rivals, that is. To commemorate this achievement, the Czechoslovak carmaker made several dozen ŠKODA POPULAR SPORT MONTE CARLOs, and in doing so established the MONTE CARLO family of cars.

The ŠKODA POPULAR MONTE CARLO with driver duo Pohl/Hausman took second place in the <1,500 cm³ class at the Monte Carlo Rallye.

This is not ŠKODA’s only success at this particular rally. Just over 40 years later, in 1977, ŠKODA notched up an even greater achievement when it’s cult ŠKODA 130 RS, dubbed the Porsche of the East, claimed both first and second place in its category.
