Škoda sets off on a Fortnite adventure

Škoda has just joined Eminem and other big showbiz stars and brands in the popular video game Fortnite. Try out some of the quests waiting for you in the Out of Bounds Odyssey game map. And don’t forget to take a selfie!

With Out of Bounds Odyssey, Škoda is expanding its presence in the digital world of video games. “The younger generation – and not only them – are abandoning traditional media like television and radio and spending more and more time playing video games. So when Škoda decided to go into Fortnite, it was not only a logical step for them, but also an imaginative assignment,” says Zuzana Valkovičová, who focuses on marketing at Škoda Auto.

Fortnite is one of the most popular video game titles across various platforms. The game has a creative mode in which just about anyone can create their own game maps and quests.

“The way I see it, Fortnite isn’t just a game, it’s a fully-fledged digital medium where there is room for various forms of presentation. After all, artists such as Marshmello, Eminem, The Weeknd and others perform here, various collaborations from the film and TV show world appear here regularly, and of course, well-known brands have a presence here as well,” says game streamer David Gärtner, who goes by the moniker Alkan.

“Fortnite also recently added a new racing mode, so you can see that the game wants to focus on connecting with the world of cars. So Škoda has chosen a good time to get involved,” adds Alkan, who has tried out the Škoda map. As an experienced player, he appreciated both its design and its playfulness, which is especially suitable for beginners.

The Out of Bounds Odyssey quest takes the form of a map that Škoda has created in Fortnite Creative mode in collaboration with partners. It stars the Škoda Enyaq Coupé RS. You can only take on the three mini quests if you find the car in the game. “I think that the chance of seeing a car in the game that they can then come across for real on the road will definitely interest players,” says Alkan. “The quests themselves are suitable even for beginners, and will teach them game skills that will come in handy in Fortnite on other occasions,” he adds.

In fact, completing the quests will teach players ways to find hard-to-reach areas on the map. Škoda encourages players who discover these locations in the Out of Bounds Odyssey map to take in-game selfies, post them on Instagram, and tag the Czech carmaker’s official @skodagram account for a chance to earn in-game rewards. At the same time, players will have the opportunity to put the skills they’ve learnt into practice in the game’s three other maps, which will be accessed via portals located in various places in the Out of Bounds Odyssey landscape. “In the spirit of Explore more, we wanted to give players the opportunity to try out these gameplay skills directly in other challenges,” explains Ashley Lewis from the team that worked on the adventure.

Fortnite, and thus also the Out of Bounds Odyssey quest, can be played on a range of platforms. The game is available for download for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, Android devices, as well as online streaming from Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW Streaming or Amazon Luna Streaming. This makes the game playable on iOS, iPad OS and other devices. After joining the game, players must search for the Out of Bounds Odyssey map in the Fortnite Discovery menu. Then all they have to do is hop into the map and play.

Škoda in the world of video games

Members of Generation Z (people born from the second half of the 1990s to about 2010) spend up to a quarter of their free time playing video games. Škoda is seeking to engage with this target group by getting involved in the video game environment. The Czech carmaker already operates its own digital initiative, the Škodaverse. What’s more, the Škoda eRally Cup e-sport competition has been going since 2021, with players competing in the DIRT Rally 2.0 game. Becoming part of Fortnite is the latest in a line of gaming ventures for Škoda, and it certainly won’t be the last.
