Meet the Peaq: Intuitive and Comfortable Controls

The Škoda Peaq is exceptional not only for its generous amount of space, comfortable interior, and cutting-edge aerodynamics. It also stands out for its approach to vehicle controls, combining a large infotainment display with physical controls. Take a look at how the developers thought through the ergonomics.

The large Peaq electric SUV represents a new chapter for Škoda Auto not only in terms of the vehicle itself, but also in terms of ergonomics and control of the on-board infotainment system. When developing its control philosophy, the brand listened to users and placed intuitive physical controls for the climate control system and other important functions within the interior.

However, the control of functions on the on-board infotainment display has also been carefully considered down to the smallest detail. Not only is the 13.6-inch portrait-oriented screen the largest in the Škoda range, but it also introduces a brand-new user interface.

“It is based on Android and has an integrated store from which you can install your own applications,” says Petr Řimnáč from Škoda Auto Technical Development. The infotainment system comes with Škoda applications pre-installed, while users can download popular services such as Spotify, YouTube and others.

The developers have also paid great attention to the appearance of the user interface itself. In addition, it can be customised in many respects according to individual preferences and needs. Users can select and arrange the content of the app switcher, widgets on the home screen and functions in the shortcuts centre. It is also possible to arrange application icons in any order simply by dragging and dropping them, including the option to create themed folders.

“All the controls are located at the bottom of the display. This allows the driver to use the armrest for comfortable operation,” Petr Řimnáč points out, highlighting an important ergonomic detail. The top of the display, meanwhile, shows messages for the driver. This allows them to read these easily without having to take their eyes off the road.

Among its practical functions, the new infotainment system features integrated navigation with both day and night modes and satellite imagery. Interactive widgets make it easier to control frequently used functions, such as media playback, vehicle settings and phone calls.
