The update brings battery preconditioning to earlier Enyaq models as well

Škoda Enyaq vehicles produced from the start of production until the end of 2023 are receiving a new battery pre-heating function. The feature helps accelerate charging at lower ambient temperatures significantly. To use the function, a software update, which is now available, must be installed.

Battery pre-heating has been available in Enyaq models manufactured from the turn of 2023 and 2024 onwards, equipped with the so-called UNECE software version – i.e. a version number beginning with at least the digit 4. However, older vehicles produced from the launch of the model until approximately the end of 2023 can now also receive this feature retroactively.

Their software can be updated to the latest version, 3.9, which includes the battery preconditioning function. Vehicles currently running software version 3.8 will be offered the update automatically by the car itself. Owners of vehicles with an older software version must first update to version 3.8 before proceeding to version 3.9 (this can be done online for versions 3.x, while vehicles running version 2.x require a visit to an authorised service centre). From version 3.8, two updates will be required: the first prepares the car for the battery preconditioning function, while the second introduces the function itself.

“The update affects approximately 200,000 vehicles, and to ensure a smooth rollout, it will be made available in waves,” explains Jiří Vlček, project manager for online updates. The first vehicles should receive the first of two updates starting in calendar week 47 and the second in week 49. Additional waves will follow gradually for owners of other vehicles. So if your vehicle isn’t currently offering the update, please be patient. Our article explains how to install the update safely.

Check your software version in the app

The method for checking the software version directly in the vehicle may differ depending on the specific Enyaq variant. However, the software version can always be checked in the MyŠkoda app, where the procedure is identical for all models.
● In the app, select the Inspect tab
● Select Car details
● Check the Car software line; it can also be opened for more details

Manual activation of battery pre-heating

The update adds a new screen called Optimising rapid charging to the vehicle infotainment system within the charging section. It is available under the Optimise tab. The screen includes an “Start battery heating” button for manual activation of battery pre-heating. "The button is active only when the battery temperature is below 20 °C. Once pressed, the battery begins to warm up gradually towards its operating temperature,” explains Vlček.

The current battery temperature can be viewed in another infotainment application: Battery temperature for fast charging. The pre-heating screen also displays the currently available maximum battery charging power. With a properly pre-heated battery, you can immediately start charging it at the maximum available power using the fast charger.

According to Vlček, the optimum battery temperature is approximately 25°C, and it is unrealistic for drivers to reach such temperatures through normal driving alone during colder weather conditions. This is precisely why battery pre-heating is so beneficial. Depending on outside temperature and other conditions, the battery reaches its optimum temperature approximately 30 to 40 minutes after pre-heating is activated. Users should keep this in mind when using the function.

How to use battery pre-heating

● It is recommended to activate the function at temperatures below 20°C
● Activate it approximately 45 minutes before charging is required
● The vehicle must be switched on; ideally, activate pre-heating while driving once the need for charging becomes apparent
● Pre-heating is not necessary for slower AC charging

Vehicles equipped with software version 4 and higher are also capable of activating battery pre-heating automatically when a charging station is entered as a destination in the navigation system. This functionality is not included in the update. „From the user’s perspective, battery pre-heating is a very simple and straightforward function, but from our perspective it requires intervention in the three most important control units of the vehicle: the vehicle control unit, the battery control unit and the infotainment system. This places enormous demands on implementation and on comprehensive testing to ensure the update functions correctly,” explains Vlček, highlighting complex aspects that are not immediately apparent to users.

According to him, the latest update is clear proof that Škoda’s commitment to customer care extends far beyond the sale of the vehicle. “We continue to support our customers throughout the vehicle’s active lifecycle,” adds Vlček.

Additional improvements included in software version 3.9

In addition to battery pre-heating, the update to version 3.9 introduces the following new features:
● An updated welcome screen that no longer requires user confirmation
● Security updates
● A software fix for the Online Connectivity Unit (OCU)
