2023: new cars and a glimpse of the future

In 2023 Škoda presented a series of important new developments and innovations, but also gave us a glimpse of the near future. And it looks like there’s going to be a lot to explore!

One of the 2023 premieres was the recent launch of the fourth-generation Škoda Superb. This was also the perfect opportunity for Škoda Storyboard to look back at the groundbreaking first-generation Superb, the beautiful estate and unique saloon of the second generation, and the timeless and crystalline design of its third generation. In fact, a sneak peek at the still-camouflaged model before its premiere had already given us a hint of the new design and technology. And Klaus Zellmer, Škoda chairman of the board, got behind the wheel of the new Superb:

2023 also brought a new generation of the Škoda Kodiaq. Its even more rugged design and a number of innovations were been revealed by Alex Montyro when he gave us a pre-premiere glimpse of the still-camouflaged model. Škoda’s largest SUV subsequently made its debut in a highly unusual location – a Berlin underground tunnel. Here’s a reminder of the premiere:

The latest generations of Kodiaq and Superb have brought significant innovations in the control of the car’s functions, among other things. The rotary and simultaneously digital Smart Dials are programmable, so the user can thus intuitively control exactly what he wants.

The Scala and Kamiq have also seen innovations this year. Both cars received a number of practical improvements and design changes to accentuate their character. Designer Dalibor Pantůček emphasised the Scala’s more pronounced sporty features.

For the Škoda Kamiq, he highlighted the more confident design that underlines this urban SUV’s rugged character.

Škoda plans to launch six new electric models by 2026. They will bear all the hallmarks of the brand’s new design language, Modern Solid, and will focus primarily on technological and design innovations.  They were revealed in the form of unique sculptures – see how they were created:

Other innovations in 2023 were the new Škoda sound logo that uses a motif from Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem Vltava and a brand campaign built on exploration, experience and emotion:

The apprentice car is one of the traditional events of the year. This year’s model is the ninth. The Škoda Rodiaq is based on the electric SUV Enyaq and pays homage to the spirit of exploration. The Roadiaq lets you work and sleep on the road. And Italian travel writer and photographer Bruno Pisani tried it out. See how the Roadiaq proved its worth on a trip to the Alps.

The electric Enyaq Coupé is the basis for the unique Enyaq Coupé Respectline. It celebrates human diversity and the uniqueness of every person. The key thing for its creators was to take advantage of the possibilities offered by the illuminated Crystal Face mask. The Respectline radiator grille has 131 LEDs, as in the series version, but in addition to 93 white lights it has 38 coloured ones that create a rainbow effect. The result is as colourful and boundless as life itself.

But that’s not the end of Škoda’s news in 2023. From this year onwards, everything important from the world of Škoda will also be covered on the regular #ExploreSkoda podcast at Škoda Storyboard.

And finally, an anniversary. The popular Škoda Octavia Combi family car celebrated a quarter of a century on the market in 2023. Remind yourself of all its generations and see the first one in this video:
