2020: a year like no other

The first all-electric SUV, 125 years of ŠKODA history, and a global pandemic that had a huge impact on our lives. It wasn’t the easiest of years, but ŠKODA can look back on 2020 with satisfaction. Take a look back with us.

23. 12. 2020 Škoda World

The most widely anticipated milestone at ŠKODA in 2020 was the ENYAQ iV, ŠKODA’s first all-electric SUV. But there was more to ŠKODA’s year than the ENYAQ iV. The OCTAVIA line, for example, has been ŠKODA’s outstanding bestseller for many years now, so it’s no surprise that customers can choose from a wide range of options and engines. This year brought new RS, G-TEC and SCOUT versions, as well as the electrified iV and eTEC versions. Meet the whole ŠKODA OCTAVIA family.

The fourth generation ŠKODA OCTAVIA is the most aerodynamic car in its class, while remaining supremely practical. From the outside it looks muscular, but inside it’s spacious. And it boasts very progressive lines, as chief designer Oliver Stefani revealed to ŠKODA Storyboard.

Or is off-road driving more your thing? Then the ŠKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT is ideal for you. For lovers of sporty rides there is the ŠKODA OCTAVIA RS, which even comes in an OCTAVIA RS iV plug-in version.

As the global pandemic raged, ŠKODA Storyboard advised how to stay safe in the car and revealed how the company immediately started 3-D printing respirators based on a unique Czech patent, as well as helping a hundred charities and non-profit organisations. Even though the whole world was shut up at home, creativity continued to flourish, like in these original TV commercials for ŠKODA SUVs:

Covid-19 changed a lot this year, but not everything. And anyway, the Czech carmaker has been no stranger to turbulence during its 125-year history. This year, a whole series of celebratory articles introduced you to prominent figures, families, places, models and sporting achievements from ŠKODA’s rich history, as well as treasures in the garage that make for a great investment. You could compare the driving experience in sporting veterans and cars of the future as imagined by ŠKODA Academy students.

This year brought a new serial called Hidden Helpers, which has given you an insight into some inconspicuous innovations and Simply Clever solutions that make life easier and more enjoyable for ŠKODA drivers. On top of that, you now also know what countries dashcams are allowed in, how a genuine detailing pro washes cars, and how luggage compartment space is measured.

ŠKODA designers showed you how new wheels are made and what a long and painstaking process the development of the two-spoke steering wheel was. And in this anniversary year, did you also wonder what iconic ŠKODA models might look like today or in the future? Like the first VOITURETTE A, FELICIA or the POPULAR?

In short, it may have been a difficult year, but it was also different and diverse. The kind of year you don’t forget. One thing is certain, though: the ŠKODA success story will continue in the coming years.
