The main purpose of airbags, in tandem with the seat belts, is to prevent the occupants’ bodies from coming into contact with any rigid parts of the car, or at least to minimise the consequences of any such contact.
Airbags are only activated when the impact intensity exceeds a set limit. At the moment of frontal impact, the front airbags and pretensioners are activated. Similarly, on a side impact, the side airbag & seatbelt pretensioner are activated.
Optimized restraining systems – airbags, seat belt pretensioners and tension limiters – strongly reduce the risk of injury.
ŠKODA cars can be fitted with up to 9 airbags, including driver and front passenger airbags, a knee airbag for the driver, two side airbags at the front, head airbags for the front and rear passengers and side airbags in the rear.
